    Stopping Dribble Penetration

You may not be able to fully and completely stop all dribble penetration but you can contain it. Here are some tips on controlling the basketball from an individual defensive standpoint.

    1. Pressure the dribbler.
    2. Stay low in a good defensive stance. If you're standing upright, you're already beat.
    3. Keep active hands and feet.
    4. Don't reach with the hands. When you reach with your hands, your feet stop moving.
    5. 'Guide' the dribbler where you want him to go.
    6. Make the dribbler pick up his dribble. It's a little easier to defend the dribble penetration when your opponent can't actually dribble!
    7. Work hard. This is obvious, but many players will let up when they are beat off the dribble. Keep working to get back and help out.
