Basketball IQ

Five hard facts in coaching high school athletes:

  1. All players dream about being starters, but very few are willing to pay the price for total commitment.
  2. What motivates one player may not motivate another. The coach must discover the trigger for each individual.
  3. The player who lives for "next year" rather than doing it "this year" will never realize his potential.
  4. One common denominator is confidence. The coach can build it up or tear it down.
  5. Remember, every player is an individual.

The above was from some old clinic notes I found from the early '80's by Coach Mel Coleman.

Drive Staggered for 3-Point Shot
This set play is designed to get a 3-point shot for your shooter. By utilizing a staggered double screen with a dribble-drive and kick out pass, there is a good chance the shooter will have an open look for 3.
4 Threat Inbounds Play
This baseline out of bounds play can be run against a man-to-man defense in the last few seconds of the game. There is a lob option, but with a couple of catch-and-shoot options there should at least be enough time on the clock to catch the ball and shoot it cleanly. This is a great last second out of bounds play that may just give you a score when you need it most!
Front the Post Drill
The Front the Post defense drill to work on continually fronting the post player and to react to passing around the perimeter.
