Inside the Rim Basketball IQ

When considering your offense, think about this:

4 out of 5 players on the floor do NOT have the basketball. Therefore, 80% of the team must learn to move in unison without the basketball in order to have a potent offense. If one player doesn't move with his teammates, the entire offense will falter.

One individual tip for moving without the ball is to watch your defender, not the basketball. The person guarding you will tell you where to move to get open (how to use the screen, how to set him up, etc).

And always, ALWAYS, move and cut with scoring in mind!

2 Dribble Elbow Shooting Drill
This is a simple 2-person shooting drill that is effective at practicing shots from an often open area against most defenses. This shooting drill creates repetition and helps the shooter become familiar at shooting off the dribble from the elbow areas.

4-Across Stagger Curl
This is a great baseline out of bounds play out of the 4-across set. The inbounds passer becomes the potential shooter after curling around a staggered screen.

3-on-3 with Open Post Drill
This drill is mainly used to focus on the defensive side, but is also good for teaching offensive movement. It teaches closing the gap defensively and reacting to post passes. Also places added pressure on the defense because of the extra offensive player.

General Principles in Attacking the Zone Defense
These 7 strategic principles are necessary in attacking any zone defense formation. Have success in your zone offense by incorporating these strategies.

2- and 3-Man Shell Blockout Drill
These simple 2-man and 3-man rebounding drills break down defensive rebounding. The defenders must work on the ballside blockout and the helpside blockout from the proper defensive positioning.
